The May discussion of The Women by Kristin Hannah was a fascinating conversation made even more special by the contributions of our own Linda Osborn. The book was a fictional account of an Army nurse who served in Vietnam. It followed her during her two tours of duty and for several years as she tried to adjust to life after returning home. Linda was in Vietnam in 1969 and shared her experiences with the group as well as her perspective on the The Women.
For June, our group will be reading Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier.
Published in 1999, it is set in 17th Century Holland. It creates a captivating story of the young woman who inspired one of the most celebrated paintings by Johannes Vermeer. It is a fictional account of the artist, the model and the painting.
The book will be discussed over dinner at the home of Carol Abend on June 19th. All members are welcome to read the book and join the discussion.
