It is great to be transitioning to fall weather. We are still having warm days but the humidity can be lower and thus more enjoyable to be out of doors and on the water. September concluded with a very successful fleet trip to Camachee Cove in St. Augustine. Five boats made the trip and several land cruisers joined in the fun for parts of the trip.
A special shout out is due to Mike and Ruthanne Ferreira. Although they are fairly new to PCYC they are very seasoned west coast sailors. They are sail boaters out of California who used to do a considerable amount of racing and have now transitioned to power boating. Ruthanne was the first female commodore of her yacht club and Mike brought his apparel sideline with him when he retired and moved to Florida. It was great fun to spend extra time with them.
October promises to be a very busy time for PCYC so mark your calendars and participate as fully as you are able. The social activities include the usual Men’s lunch, Shipmates lunches and Friday member dinners. There are two social highlights included in the month.
The Jingle Bell Bowl and been transformed into the Monster Bowl. It is very exciting to imagine the costumes possible with the new date. Our local charity this year is GAL7. (Guardian Ad Litum District 7). This Foundation works to provide extras needed by children involved in the legal system in Florida. Our members have grown the dollars raised every year since we began our annual fund raising for a local Flagler County organization. Mark Sunday, October 20, on your calendar and come root for the children of Flagler County as your fellow members, friends and neighbors entertain us with their antics on the alleys as funds are raised. Bowling is $30 and being a spectator is $10.
October is also the month for the Progressive Dinner. What can be better than cruising the canals and dining incrementally VC Donella Crawford and Fleet Captain Bill Sulser have been working diligently for several months to coordinate boats, houses, attendees and food. It has all come together quite nicely and will be a successful event.
October has finally produced some business that needs to be brought before the entire membership. A General Membership Meeting has been scheduled for Friday, October 18, 4:00pm, Pine Lakes Golf Course. The BOG will meet the prior week, October 11, 4:00pm, Pine Lakes Golf Course. We look forward to meeting with members and seeing some who have been absent for awhile.
Again, this can be a busy time for your yacht club membership so please don’t miss any of the excitement coming in October. See you on the water and the land as we take advantage of the life style living in Florida affords us.
