We remain in the moist and heated/humid part of the Florida life style. Frequent thunderstorms and threats of thunderstorms hamper our outdoor activities often. However, judging from the influx of tourists around us, people remain undaunted in their pursuit of the treasures of the Florida experience.
We sometimes seem to feel as if we live in the land of never ending opportunities. Our retirement status allows us to be a bit less responsible than we previously had to be when we were held accountable by employment constraints. Fortunately there are some amongst us who remain in employment status so we have examples of responsible behavior.
An example arose recently of our inattention to detail and the results were not pleasant. Whenever our Rear Commodore Sarah Ulis sends the blast for Friday Member dining, she includes a gentle reminder to please respond so adequate staffing etc. is in place. Many of us know from experience that sometimes people don’t take this request seriously. Unfortunately, the problem became overwhelming one recent Friday evening. We had 150% of the number of people signed up for dinner show up for dinner. Coupled with getting slammed in the other room serving food, it made for a very long and unpleasant dining experience. Both PLGC and PCYC have tried to take corrective action.
Both the Commodore and Rear Commodore are asking members to respond to the emails from Rear Commodore Sarah Ulis. We know historically that Palm Coast is a last minute decision type of city and we can handle that. Having a true picture of anticipated attendance will allow better scheduling and not cause staff to be sent home only to be needed later. We absorbed many of these issues when we had our own operation by allowing it to affect our net income adversely. We no longer can make those decisions and we have to deal with the outcomes of our decisions. So please, take the few moments to respond if you think you even might be attending and we can avoid any future meltdowns and just have fun.
The fun of the Florida life style continues. Saturday, August 17 you have the option of arriving by boat or automobile for Lunch at Hidden Treasure Raw Bar and Grill, Flagler Beach. Further details for contact and reservations will follow. It should be a pleasant day for a boat ride and FB is definitely a fun place for lunch.
Vice Commodore Donella Crawford’s creation of the new website has come to fruition and is thoroughly easy to navigate and enjoy. palmcoastyachtclub.com Be sure to check it out and keep up to date on the club activities.
